KDay can only count for people whose birthday including the birth year is known. Contacts with a birthday but no year appear in a separate section — add the year to their contact card, or tap the paper plane to ask them directly. Contacts without any birthday don't appear at all: add one in the Contacts app, or add the person manually with the + button.

If you granted access to only selected contacts, KDay sees just those. Allow full access in iOS Settings → Apps → KDay → Contacts. You can also import birthday events from your calendar (Settings → More birthdays → Import from calendar) — handy if your birthdays live in Google Calendar.

Check iOS Settings → Notifications → KDay, and the app's own settings: you can choose a heads-up (1–14 days ahead), day-of only, or never — and the hour they arrive. If you picked "Never", that's working as intended. We respect a good "no".

Whole calendar days from the birth date to today, handled by the system calendar — time zones and daylight saving are accounted for. Your next k-day is that count rounded up to the next multiple of 1,000. If today lands exactly on a multiple: happy k-day.
